Pennine Peace

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

Along the path of rock and soil,

Lone trees proudly stand.

Across the stream a gentle trickle,

Smooth the scattered stone,

Positioned by downpours of old.

I can smell a freshness in the air,

And feel the warmth of the sun in rise,

The breeze a welcome companion,

Along the path of rock and soil.

Ascending through the bracken,

Heather and ferns,

Through peat and bog,

To barren heights,

And jagged outcrops.

From time to time stood still,

Catching ones breath.

Precious the thinning air,

Along the path of rock and soil.

Looking back, across

The travelled landscape,

To further afield, the distant picture.

An evolving scene,

Delighting my senses.

Hills and Hedged Fields

Now beneath me,

Shadows cast from cloud filled skies

Upon the patchwork landscape below,

Along the path of rock and soil.

To a moment victorious

To the highest point.

Where Eagles spread their wings and glide...

...To a place where Man and God

Whisper on the wind,

To say their hellos and goodbyes...

...Along the path of rock and soil.
